Nice

This is where they make skin cancer in France.

The 'beach'.

Petite pumpkins.
Nice was nice for a rest day. Next stop, Cinque Terre.

Le Tour

We walked the final km of Stage 16 (Bourg St Maurice) before the bikes arrived.

Matt in his Polka dot cap.

Le bikes, last 200 metres of Stage 16.

Just incase you forgot what we look like. There is also a beautiful lake behind us, this is just over Cormec de Roseland (a mountain) near Bourg St Maurice.

Caroline on the bonnet of our car.

Our favourite French cow. She has a noisy bell.

Best view from a hotel window so far (we stayed in a little town called Areches, just out of Boufort).

Le bikes, just about to start the second hill climb of stage 17. Lance is there somewhere.

Alpe d'Huez

The beautiful village of Alpe d'Huez. It is situated 1860 metres above sea level. The climb is 13.8 km at an average 7.9 per cent, with 21 hairpins (les 21 virages) named after the winners of stages there.

View from Huez.

Matt, 4 virages from the top.

At the top in a time of 1hr 10min.

Post race pizza.
There are more pics on professional photographers websites, details to come in next post.

our last night in paris

Here you go Mum, this is Willi's wine bar. It turned out to be at the end of our street.

Paris part two

The view from behind the clock at Muse de Orsay.

Windy day out the front of Invalides, former hospital, now a museum.

Matt on the Champs-Elysées, sans le bike.

Marta and Tony is that you? Dad i didn't know you played the violin... Mum you're as good as ever on the old piano accordian!

Stormy coulds above the Sacré Coeur, or white castle as we call it.

Another beautiful ceiling (in the Opera Garnier)

Marcus this one is for you if you are out there... spot the japanese tourist.

So that was Paris, well some of it. Our top 5 activities (in no particular order):
- Muse de Orsay
- Eifel tower
- Opera
- Nutella Crepes
- Arc de triomphe

Least favourite activity:
The sewer tour was interesting but smelly. The highlight was seeing what happens when a toothbrush gets flushed.

Overall Paris has been a treat. Caroline gives it 8.75/10! (there you go Carol, it is a different number, kind of).

Mark and Michelle, I hope you are not working the weekend. I am worried as the JMS blog has not been updated for a long time...

Paris part 1

Ok, so Caroline is not as strong as she looks. It is generally faster for Matt to carry both backpacks.

We watched the sun go down whilst waiting for the Bastille Day fireworks to begin.

Matt has poke neck out the front of this lovely old bookshop.

Notre Dame.

Do we look Frnch? People keep asking us for directions.

This is the only Eifel tower shot Dad I promise.

The view out of our appartment window.

We liked the ceiling better than most of the art.

Actually, if you look really closely you can see the Eifel Tower in this one too but I dont think it really counts.
So far we are having a great time in Paris but our French sucks. We basically just talk in English with a French accent. The locals have been very accepting thus far. Ok, we are going to get some nutella crepes.
Caroline gives Paris part one 8.5, on par with London. Matt still does not do scores.
Thanks for the comments, its nice to know youre still there!

London

Sarah, our lovely hostess (and Caroline's cousin).

The view from the London Eye.

What all of you really come to this blog to see.

Occasionally something good can be found at the end of a narrow alley,
especially in Convent Garden.

Scones and tea at Harrods.

We tried really hard to think of a funny comment. This is Stonehenge.

Bath water tastes terrible (don't be tricked into drinking it).

Roman bath's, water strictly for looking at.

St.Pauls cathedral from the millenium footbridge.

Caroline's score for London 8.5/10 (matt doesn't do scores).

Next stop Paris...

departure day

Us with our favourite 2 year old at the Adelaide Airport.
